A 12-inch water main that ruptured in San Francisco’s Ingleside Heights neighborhood on Monday afternoon has been repaired, a spokeswoman for the city’s Public Utilities Commission said today.
The break occurred at about 1:30 p.m. on Monticello Street just off of 19th Avenue, SFPUC spokeswoman Alison Kastama said.
Repairs were completed on the cast-iron pipe, installed in 1935, at about 10 p.m.
The rupture caused water to flood the garages of two homes on nearby Chester Avenue and sediment to disrupt service on San Francisco Municipal Railway’s M-Ocean View line, Kastama said.
Crews cleared the rail line by about 5 p.m. and Muni service resumed, Kastama said.
She said the break occurred on the bottom of the pipe and was simply caused by the old age of the metal.
