Celebrate 107 Years Since The Great 1906 Earthquake And Fire This Week

This Thursday marks 107 years since the 1906 Great SF Earthquake and Fire, which means lots of commemorative events.

Highlights include a survivors parade this Wednesday, expected to feature 107 year old survivor Winnie Hook, 2012 Honorary Survivor and former Mayor Willie Brown, Mayor Ed Lee, Chiefs of the SFPD and SFFD, “Lillie Coit,” “Emperor Norton,” and many more.

Thursday morning’s commemoration will begin with a moment of remembrance at Lotta’s Fountain at 5:11 AM. (That time signifies the moment the earthquake hit.) A wreath will be dedicated to ’06 survivor George Quilci, who passed away last year at the age of 107, and to See’s Candies former president and CEO Chuck Huggins who passed away last year at the age of 87.

The annual painting of the fire hydrant that saved the Mission District will take place shortly after, at 5:40 AM at 20th and Church St.

After that, Lefty O’Doul’s is hosting their annual Survivors Bloody Mary Breakfast from 6 AM to 10 AM.
