Get Up To 5 Gallons of Free Compost This Saturday

Start prepping the backyard, porch, and garden and get ready for some compost. As we reported last year, Recology’s Annual Great Compost Giveaway was a rousing success, bringing over 18 truckloads of compost to almost 4,000 residents. This year, they’re ready to do it again for the eighth year running.

What: Recology’s 8th Annual Great Compost Giveaway
When: Saturday, April 6 from 8am to noon
Where: multiple locations: McLaren Park at the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater Parking Lot: John F Shelly Dr. & Mansell St, Ocean Beach Parking Lot: 850 Great Highway, Recology Golden Gate: 900 7th (enter on Berry St.)
Cost: free! (but bring your own bucket!)

Residents are encouraged to bring their own bucket to one of three compost pick-up spots, where they can collect up to 5 gallons of 100% SFian compost this Saturday, April 6.

According to Recology, the compost is “a custom blend made from food scraps and plant trimmings collected from Recology’s green bin program.” Sounds fancy and goes great with home gardens and container plants.

The Great Compost Giveaway is happening rain or shine at McLaren Park, the Ocean Beach Parking Lot, and Recology Golden Gate. For more information, visit recologysf.com.
