Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced the appointment this week of Patrick Mason, of San Francisco, to the California Transportation Commission.

Mason, 62, has served as president of the California Foundation on the Environment and the Economy since 1984, according to Schwarzenegger’s office. From 1980 to 1982, he was chief economist for the Association of Bay Area Governments.

Mason, a Democrat, will be compensated $100 per diem for the position if given Senate confirmation.
