bart_generic.jpg2:13 PM: A woman was assaulted during a confrontation with fellow BART passengers while getting on a train at the Coliseum/Oakland Airport station this morning, a BART police spokeswoman said.

The crime was reported at 7:40 a.m., prompting police to stop the train and search it, BART spokesman Jim Allison said.

The train was released just after 8 a.m., but the incident caused delays of up to 30 minutes, he said.

BART police Officer Era Jenkins said it appears the victim was involved in some sort of confrontation with three other people who were also getting on the train.

She said it’s unclear what sparked the dispute but that the woman was attacked by the trio, described as two young women and a male teenager.

“They just started jumping on her,” Jenkins said.

The victim appeared to be by herself, but a bystander intervened and broke up the scuffle, Jenkins said.

The victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for her injuries, which Jenkins said were not life-threatening.

BART police are reviewing video footage to see if surveillance cameras captured the incident, and are still trying to locate the suspects.

Jenkins asked anyone with information on the case to call (510) 464-7000.
