police-light-bar1.jpgA man was critically injured in an assault in San Francisco’s Potrero Hill neighborhood on Monday night, police said today.

Officers responded to a request for a welfare check in the 1200 block of Rhode Island Street at about 10 p.m.

They found the 36-year-old victim unconscious and covered in blood, police said.

He was not able to tell investigators what happened and was taken to a hospital to be treated for cuts to his head that are considered life-threatening, according to police.

No suspect information was immediately available this morning.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call the Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or to send a tip by text message to TIP411 with “SFPD” in the message.
