clock.jpgDaylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, which many remember means the clock “springs” forward an hour and we lose an hour as the spring season approaches.

When clocks need to be moved forward one hour, Bay Area public safety officials are urging residents to also take the time to prepare for an emergency.

While changing the time on clocks, safety officials remind residents to change batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors and to check on emergency supplies.

The Monterey County Health Department advises that residents check that homes have a three-day supply of bottled water, non-perishable food and medication.

Those with pets should make sure supplies are prepared for them as well.

As of 2007, Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. on the second Sunday of March and ends at the same time on the first Sunday of November, according to NASA officials.

In 2005, President George W. Bush signed into law extending Daylight Saving Time by four weeks, according to NASA.

This year Daylight Saving Time ends on Nov. 3.
