gaveldecision.jpgThe preliminary hearing begins Wednesday for a bicyclist charged with felony vehicular manslaughter for fatally striking a pedestrian in San Francisco’s Castro District last year.
Chris Bucchere, 36, struck 71-year-old Sutchi Hui at Castro and Market streets on the morning of March 29, 2012. Hui died at a hospital days later.

Prosecutors said a felony charge was filed because Bucchere ran several stop signs and red lights at intersections prior to the collision and appeared to not brake before hitting Hui.

The case gained further attention when it was revealed that, on the day of the collision, someone using the name Chris Bucchere wrote about the accident on an online cycling forum.

In the post, Bucchere wrote that he hoped Hui was OK, but ended by saying the moral of the story was the importance of wearing a bike helmet, prompting criticism from other forum members. The post was later taken off the site.

The hearing that starts Wednesday morning will determine whether Bucchere will stand trial on the charge.
