Despite a brief setback in opening day plans, the San Francisco local favorite Gold Dust Lounge announced Friday a new date for its grand reopening in a newly established Fisherman’s Wharf location, a bar publicist said.
The now-shutdown Union Square watering hole was initially set to open Friday at 165 Jefferson St., but last-minute arrangements pushed back the new location opening to Feb. 1, bar publicist Lee Houskeeper said.
The new 2,700-square-foot space at Fisherman’s Wharf has attempted to recreate the smaller Powell Street bar–down to the bar stools.
Houskeeper said the postponed opening was due in part to a not-quite-ready mural from the original Gold Dust ceiling that depicts cherubs and other angel-like figures among clouds.
The bar was shut down last spring after the bar’s owners, the Bovis family, lost the lease at the building after 79 years of operation.
Opening weekend parties will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 1, 2 and 3 for those who had RSVPed to be part of the celebrations.
The bar’s regular hours of operation will begin on Feb. 4 at 7 a.m.
