Two new judges today were sworn in as members of the San Francisco Superior Court bench.
Brendan P. Conroy and Braden C. Woods were appointed by California Gov. Jerry Brown on Dec. 27. to the 52-judge and single commissioner superior court bench.
Conroy was appointed to fill the void left by Judge Mary C. Morgan, who retired in March 2011.
Woods was appointed to take over the spot vacated by Judge Tomar Mason, who retired in December 2011.
Conroy, 56, has served as a certified criminal law specialist, representing defendants in both state and federal courts. He has been an attorney at the Law Offices of Brendan Conroy since 1992, where he was noted for expertise in criminal and civil mental health law.
He earned a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University at San Francisco.
Woods, 46, has been an assistant district attorney at the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office since 1996. He served as chief deputy of the criminal division since 2011.
He has also had stints as head of the homicide, preliminary hearing and cold case units. Woods founded the cold case unit in 2008.
Woods earned his J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree at University of California at Berkeley.
