9:40 PM: A three-alarm fire in San Francisco’s Mission District this morning displaced more than three dozen people including four children, according to updated numbers form the American Red Cross.
A total of 39 adults and four children were displaced by the fire, which was first reported at a home on Capp Street near 23rd Street around 9:45 a.m., Red Cross spokeswoman Kathleen Maclay said.
The Red Cross is providing emergency housing tonight for 19 people, representing 10 families, Maclay said.
The fire was brought under control by 11:18 a.m., but not before it damaged multiple buildings. Maclay said she understood there were 13 distinct addresses affected.
The Red Cross set up an evacuation center today to help victims of the fire, and will operate a client services center tomorrow from noon to six p.m. at Mission Presbyterian Church, 3261 23rd St.
Because around half the people seen by the Red Cross today were Spanish speaking, translators will be available to help.
Maclay noted that because this is a holiday period, some residents affected by the fire may not be home yet and may not be aware of the damage.
5:58 PM: At least 31 people from around six buildings have sought help from the American Red Cross following a three-alarm fire in San Francisco’s Mission District, a Red Cross spokeswoman said today.
The fire, which was first reported at a home on Capp Street near 23rd Street around 9:45 a.m., was brought under control by 11:18 a.m., but not before it damaged multiple buildings.
The Red Cross opened an evacuation center after the fire to assist the dozens who were displaced, according to spokeswoman Kathleen Maclay.
The center is closed now and no emergency shelter will be opened tonight, Maclay said. A service center will be opened to assist residents on an ongoing basis, but the location is not known yet.
12:16 PM: After more than an hour battling a three-alarm fire in San Francisco’s Mission District this morning the blaze was called under control, a San Francisco fire dispatcher said.
The fire was reported at a home on Capp near 23rd streets around 9:45 a.m., according to a dispatcher.
The blaze was under control at 11:18 a.m., the dispatcher said.
10:52 AM: Firefighters are responding to a three-alarm fire in San Francisco’s Mission District this morning, a San Francisco fire dispatcher said.
The blaze at a home at Capp and 23rd streets was reported just after 9:45 a.m., the dispatcher said.
