Crews responding to a 4:02 p.m. report of a fire at a home on Villa Terrace near Twin Peaks Boulevard found a mattress burning in the basement, fire spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said.

A male victim suffered burns and is being taken to a hospital, Talmadge said. She did not know the extent of the victim’s injuries.

The fire was contained to the basement area and was extinguished within 15 minutes, according to Talmadge.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
