San Francisco resident Brianna Chamorro, 19, and San Bruno resident Amber Hanna, 19, were acquitted of battery charges on Thursday by a jury after a day of deliberations, according to Chamorro’s defense attorney, Deputy Public Defender Edward Mario.

The two were charged after an April 27 incident in which they and two others fought with two women in the same row of seats at a San Francisco Giants versus San Diego Padres game.

One of the women in their group lit up a joint, prompting a woman sitting next to them to ask them to put it out. The women complied, Mario said.

The smell lingered, however, and a short time later the woman who had complained and her 60-year-old mother got up to leave. They attempted to aggressively push past Chamorro and Hanna and her friends, and when Chamorro resisted the woman allegedly shoved her in the face, Mario said.

“Ms. Chamorro threw her arms out to protect herself and stood up, while Ms. Hanna tried to separate the two,” Mario said. “From then on it was a lot of flailing and the 60-year-old mother fell into the row behind them.”

The woman was treated for a bruised hip and leg at a hospital.

Mario said the jury did not find the testimony of the daughter credible, and that other witnesses did not see Chamorro or Hanna push the mother, as prosecutors alleged.
