A man was arrested in Contra Costa County after a high-speed chase went through multiple counties early this morning, a California Highway Patrol lieutenant said.
CHP officers began the pursuit at about 2 a.m. on eastbound Interstate Highway 80 on the Carquinez Bridge, Contra Costa County CHP Lt. Mike Hagerman said.
The vehicle, reported stolen out of Antioch, exited eastbound Highway 80 in Vallejo and then entered the westbound part of the highway, Hagerman said.
The pursuit continued into San Francisco where the suspect, later identified as Darryl Crocker, turned around again and headed east on Highway 80 into Oakland, Hagerman said.
Crocker continued on eastbound Highway 80 through Oakland and eventually entered state Highway 4, Hagerman said.
Spike strips were deployed at four separate locations during the pursuit: westbound Highway 80 in Hercules and at Gilman Street in Berkeley; eastbound Highway 80 at Treasure Island; and eastbound Highway 24 at the Caldecott Tunnel, Solano County CHP officer Chris Parker said.
The vehicle pursuit finally ended at 3:08 a.m. in Contra Costa County on Highway 4 and Crocker fled the scene on foot, Hagerman said. A foot pursuit ended quickly as K-9 units from the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office tracked him down, he said.
Crocker was medically cleared for a small bite from the dog and taken to Solano County Jail where he was booked on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle, evading police officers and possession of stolen property, Parker said.
