San Francisco police are continuing to ask the public for help in tracking down the person who murdered a hairstylist at his home in the city’s Diamond Heights neighborhood last week.
Steven “Eriq” Escalon, 28, was found dead at about 6:20 p.m. on June 12 inside his home in the 5000 block of Diamond Heights Boulevard.
Police have not disclosed Escalon’s cause of death but said the case is being treated as a homicide.
According to a flier police disseminated around the neighborhood this week, investigators are seeking information about someone who was seen in the area carrying a flat-screen TV, at least one computer and possibly a game console around the time of the killing.
Anyone with information about Escalon’s death is asked to call Inspectors Warnke, Jones or Dedet of the Police Department’s homicide detail at (415) 553-1145 or the department’s operation centers after hours at (415) 553-1071.
Tipsters who wish to stay anonymous can call the tip line at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411.
Escalon worked as a hairdresser at Metamorphosis Salon on Market Street, according to his Facebook page.
A scholarship fund has been set up in Escalon’s honor by his friends and colleagues from the Blue Devils, a Concord-based marching band and color guard program.
Escalon performed with the Blue Devils’ color guard from 2002 to 2005, executive director David Gibbs said.
“We’re like a college-type fraternal group,” Gibbs said. “It’s a pretty intense experience, and you make life-long friends.”
He said Escalon was “a great guy, fun-loving, a great personality.”

Escalon grew up in the Central Valley, and his funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at the People’s Church in Fresno.
The family has asked that donations be sent in lieu of flowers to Citibank account No. 42002248096, payable to Eriq’s mother, Esmeralda Escalon.
