12:39 PM: A man who was fatally shot in San Francisco’s Visitacion Valley neighborhood early this morning has been identified by the medical examiner’s office as 21-year-old city resident William Castillo.

Officers responded at about 12:05 a.m. to a ShotSpotter activation in the 1700 block of Sunnydale Avenue, where they found a man lying between two buildings suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body, police said.

The victim, later identified as Castillo, was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at about 3 a.m., according to police.

No arrests had been made in the case as of midday, and no suspect information was available, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.
