The family of Alexis Busch, one of the victims of the deadly yacht crash near the Farallon Islands earlier this month, is holding a public memorial for the former San Francisco Giants bat girl at AT&T Park next week.
The Giants announced the memorial, which will take place next Monday afternoon, on behalf of Busch’s family this morning.
Busch’s brother, Chris Busch, said in a statement, “Every member of our family extends our heartfelt condolences to the friends and families of all those who died with my sister and we will continue to hold them in our hearts.”
He thanked the Giants and the team’s CEO and president Larry Baer for their support.
Alexis Busch, 26, the daughter of former Giants executive vice president Corey Busch, was a bat girl for the Giants from 1999 to 2002.
“Alex considered AT&T Park her home away from home and the Giants as her second family,” her brother said.
She was on board the 38-foot yacht Low Speed Chase when it was hit by large waves and crashed into some rocks during the Full Crew Farallones Race on April 14.
One sailor, Marc Kasanin, 46, of Belvedere, was pulled out of the water by rescuers and pronounced dead at the scene.
Four others–Busch, of Larkspur; Alan Cahill, of Tiburon; Jordan Fromm, 25, of Kentfield; and Elmer Morrissey, of Ireland–are still missing and presumed dead.
Several other crew members were rescued and survived.
Over the weekend, friends of the sailors who were killed organized a memorial flotilla for their fallen loved ones in the waters off of Tiburon on Saturday evening.
Next Monday’s memorial at AT&T Park will begin at 1 p.m. Those wishing to attend can enter through the Willie Mays Gate beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Parking will be available in Lot A on Third Street, on the other side of the Lefty O’Doul Bridge.
