A disturbing story of a daylight abduction on a SOMA street has come to a (sort of) happy ending, with SFPD announcing nearly a week later that the victim has been found safe.
As previously reported, a woman was kidnapped the afternoon of Tuesday, February 27 at the intersection of Mission and 10th streets.
The 20-year-old victim and another person were walking when the suspect drove up behind them, pulled the victim into his vehicle and drove away west on Mission Street, police said.
Police spokesman Sgt. Daryl Fong said at the time that police were treating the case as an isolated incident and said “it doesn’t appear to be a public safety issue.”
Fong said the suspect and victim “have some sort of relationship.”
As the Ex now reports, the woman has since been found safe.
According to the Ex, upon their arrival in SF from Reno, the victim and her friend first stop was a Ninth Street hotel, the location of “the friend’s ‘self-admitted pimp.'”
The victim and friend were then headed to the Mission to allegedly solicit for prostitution.
“While en route, police said, the suspect vehicle began following the women before the victim was forcibly taken into the car,” the Ex reports.
She was discovered to be safe some time thereafter, police say.
Her family has been notified of her whereabouts and condition.
