Given the fact that there are regulations for damn near everything in SF, it comes as a great surprise that those renegade party buses would be traveling down a ruleless road. As the Ex reports, the city’s getting tired of party buses committing party fouls by dropping off overly-inebriated patrons at clubs and seemingly turning a blind eye to the underage drinking that occurs aboard the buses.

The latter allegedly led to the death of a Burlingame teen who crashed his car into a barrier hours after stepping off one such party bus.

“Ninety-nine-point-nine percent of the time, these buses are not from San Francisco. So by the time they get here, [passengers are] all pretty lit,” Vajra Grenalli, an inspector for the Entertainment Commission told the Ex.

Things came to a head when a party bus patron was arrested for bringing a handgun onto the bus on New Year’s Eve. Amazingly, there are little to no state regulations for party buses either, though local regulators are hoping to change that.

“There’s not much out there right now, even at the state level,” Grenalli told the Ex.

“We’re really trying to look at how we can regulate them.”
