Officers responded at 8:13 a.m. Tuesday to a report of a man barricaded in a room at a building in the 1600 block of Oakdale Avenue near Third Street, police spokesman Sgt. Daryl Fong said.

The officers were told that the 50-year-old man had been acting aggressively and was upset that someone had eaten his meal, Fong said.

He was walking around the building with knives in each hand before barricading himself in his room and threatening to harm himself, according to Fong.

Responding officers were unable to get the man to come out, so the department’s hostage negotiation team was called in. The man eventually surrendered peacefully at about 10:30 a.m., Fong said.

He was taken to a hospital for evaluation. His name will not be released because he was not arrested, Fong said.
