The original St. Anthony Dining Room in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood will be serving its last meals today before moving to an interim location while a new facility is built.
The dining room, located at 45 Jones St., has served low-income and homeless residents since 1950. It will be closed temporarily while the old building is demolished and a new facility is constructed in its place, according to St. Anthony officials.
During the closure, meals will be served in an interim dining room at the St. Anthony Foundation’s headquarters at 150 Golden Gate Ave.
Mayor Ed Lee, Supervisor Jane Kim and San Francisco Giants President Larry Baer are among those scheduled to attend a noon news conference today to mark the dining room’s closure.
Along with serving meals, the St. Anthony Foundation provides a free medical clinic, free clothing program and a residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation program, among other services. Foundation officials say the organization serves more than 1,600 people each day.
