police-light-bar1.jpg11:17 AM: A motorist exiting northbound Interstate Highway 280 in San Francisco crashed into a Mini Cooper this morning, sending two people to the hospital, a police spokesman said.

The crash was reported at 6:28 a.m. near Mariposa and Indiana streets.

The driver told police he was exiting the highway at Mariposa Street when he lost his brakes, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.

He tried to swerve but was unable to avoid a Mini Cooper that was stopped in front of him, and his car smashed into it and overturned, Esparza said. He was not injured.

Two people inside the Mini Cooper were taken to a hospital, one of whom had to be extricated from the car, Esparza said. Their injuries were not life-threatening.

The off-ramp was shut down while the crash was investigated.

8:06 AM: Two people were briefly trapped in a car this morning in San Francisco’s Potrero Hill neighborhood near an Interstate Highway 280 exit, San Francisco fire officials said.

A car went down an embankment near Indiana and Mariposa streets around 6:30 a.m. and trapped as many as two people in the car, fire officials said.

Fire crews that responded said everyone was taken out of the car by 6:45 a.m.

Officials did not know the extent of any injuries.
