wave.jpgCrews are working to get water to customers affected by a water main break in the Misson District, a water department spokeswoman said this evening.

The break in the 16-inch transmission line on 23rd Street between Potrero and Rhode Island streets was reported around 4:10 p.m., according to Maureen Barry, a spokeswoman for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission.

Work crews are working to backfeed water to that area from other mains nearby, Barry said. It is not clear how many residents, if any, have lost water as a result of the break.

The break occurred near San Francisco General Hospital, but has not caused flooding inside the hospital as some early reports suggested, according Rachel Kagan, a hospital spokeswoman.

There is no estimated time for the break to be repaired, Barry said.
