sfpd_cityhall.jpgIt’s not just a Law and Order spinoff: according to a press release from the SFPD, Police Chief Greg Suhr and Mayor Ed Lee will officially open the police’s “Special Victims’ Unit (S.V.U.)” this morning.

“For the first time in the SFPD’s history, various investigative units will operate out of a single office to focus on the sensitive nature of crimes in which victims have suffered the effects of domestic violence, elder abuse, child abuse and sex crimes/exploitation. Most of the victims in these categories are women, children, and the elderly,” says the release.

According to the SFPD, investigative assignments within the SVU will include Human Trafficking, Stalking, the Sexual Offender Registration Program, Financial Crimes, and Missing Persons.

The opening ceremony is iat 11 AM in Room 500 on the fifth floor of the Hall of Justice, at 850 Bryant.
