Gov. Jerry Brown announced five appointments for state positions, two of which were filled by Bay Area residents, the governor’s office said today.
Jeanne Clinton, 60, of Berkeley, will join the California Public Utilities Commission as a special advisor, a position that does not require Senate confirmation.
Since 2009, Clinton has served as a manager for the commission’s climate strategies branch. Prior to that, she advised the committee on clean energy and policy planning from 2006 to 2009.
Clinton will be compensated $130,236 for her role as a special advisor.
Brown appointed San Francisco’s Barbara Emley, 69, to the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission. Emley has fished commercially for more than 20 years and has served as the strategy team leader for the Pacific Coast Federation of Fisherman’s Associations since 1995.
From 2002 to 2007, Emley chaired the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council.
Her newly appointed position requires Senate confirmation and provides compensation of $100 per diem.
Beyond the Bay Area, Nandya Chinoy Dabby, 34, of Los Angeles, will join the State Allocation Board, Pat Leary, 53, of Davis, was appointed chief deputy director of the Department of Social Services, and Sylvia Torres-Guillen, 45, of Los Angeles, was named general counsel of the Agricultural Labor Relations Board.
