wave.jpgThe U.S. Coast Guard this morning searched the waters near Ocean Beach by boat and helicopter after receiving a report of a vessel in distress.

A good Samaritan reported at 7:07 a.m. that a small gray boat was possibly taking on water about 300 meters from the Cliff House restaurant, Coast Guard Petty Officer Jared Buckmiller said.

The Coast Guard dispatched a small boat and a helicopter to that spot and located a boat that matched the description but was not in distress, he said.

Buckmiller said it appears the boat was the same vessel the caller had reported, but as of 8 a.m. the Coast Guard was still conducting a sweep of the area to make sure there was not another boater in distress.

The San Francisco Fire Department had crews respond on land but has since canceled the response.
