cover-crosswalk.jpgA taxi driver in San Francisco was arrested after allegedly striking a pedestrian and then fleeing early this morning, a police spokesman said.

The pedestrian, a 28-year-old man, was walking in a crosswalk with a green light at the intersection of Sutter and Polk streets when he was hit by the cab at about 1:50 a.m., police said.

He suffered life-threatening head injuries and was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, police Officer Albie Esparza said.

The taxi driver, a man in his 30s whose name is not yet being released, struck the pedestrian while making a turn from westbound Sutter Street to southbound Polk Street, Esparza said.

He was later located near Market and Gough streets and taken into custody, police said.
