Despite being a relatively dismal place to be, SFO’s number of passengers went up last year by 5.2%, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.
SFO, which has recently added features like direct service to New Orleans, a new terminal expected to open in April (that, incidentally, has some really fancy art), and tap water filling stations, saw passenger numbers shoot up from 37.5 million in 2009 to 39.4 million, the airport says. This number includes both anyone getting off and on a plane or flying in and out of the airport on the same plane.
Experts credit tourism and a revived economy. In addition our thriving economy, locals traveling is also credited as increasing the number of passengers; because everyone knows that more money means more opportunities to spend it elsewhere.
