A San Francisco boyfriend and girlfriend charged with the murder of a man over the use of his cell phone on Sunday made their first appearance in court today.

Antoine Grays, 29, and Toyia Taylor, 18, were arrested early Monday morning following the shooting of 33-year-old Sylvestri Brown, of San Francisco, outside a Potrero Hill apartment complex.

Brown was found shot once in the upper body in the 900 block of Connecticut Street at about 8:15 p.m. Sunday, according to police.

According to prosecutor Braden Woods, head of the district attorney’s office homicide unit, Grays and Taylor were squatting in the apartment above that of Brown’s girlfriend.

Brown is believed to have had an ongoing dispute with either Grays or Taylor, or possibly both, according to Woods.

On Sunday night, Brown had been visiting his girlfriend and argued with Grays and Taylor after he refused to let them use his cell phone, Woods said.

Grays then allegedly shot Brown with a stolen gun, Woods said.

Prosecutors have charged Grays with murder, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of stolen property.

Taylor is charged as an accessory to murder, and also with possession of a loaded firearm not registered to her.

“She was caught with the murder weapon, secreting it for Grays,” Woods told a judge this morning.

Arraignment on the charges in San Francisco Superior Court was postponed until Friday.

The judge ordered Grays held without bail, and Taylor on $1 million bail.
