pg&e_blackout(2).jpg10:01 AM: PG&E crews continued to work in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood this morning where about 348 customers have been without power for more than eight hours, a spokeswoman said.

The outage, which appears to have been caused by an underground cable failure, was reported at around 1:10 a.m., PG&E spokeswoman Jana Morris said.

Utility crews were working to repair and replace the cable and hoped to have power restored to the neighborhood by 10 a.m.

A separate outage caused by a blown fuse affected 186 customers in the Western Addition neighborhood since 1 a.m., Morris said.

Power was fully restored to the area by 7 a.m.

6:18 AM: More than 500 PG&E customers are without power after two pieces of equipment failed early this morning, a PG&E spokeswoman said.

At approximately 1:13 a.m., an outage was reported in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood, affecting about 348 customers.

PG&E spokeswoman Jana Morris said that the outage was the result of an underground cable failure.

“Its likely that the cable has just reached the end of its life,” Morris said. “We will go in, remove it and replace it with a brand new cable.”

Power is estimated to be restored at 8 a.m., Morris said.

Another outage affecting about 186 customers in San Francisco’s Western Addition and Japantown district was reported shortly after 1 a.m.

Morris said that a blown fuse was to blame for the outage, which is estimated to be restored between 6:30 and 7 a.m.

The fuse, Morris said, was designed to interrupt power to the circuit when the flow exceeded safe levels.
