jean-quan.jpgOakland Mayor-elect Jean Quan said today the reason she accumulated several unpaid parking tickets and wound up having her car booted outside City Hall on Tuesday was because she was busy.

Quan, who has been on the Oakland City Council for eight years and will become mayor on Jan. 3 after narrowly winning this month’s election, said in a statement that, “Over the course of the last year, my family and I have been extraordinarily busy on my campaign.”

“During that time we accumulated several parking tickets,” she said, adding that her husband, Dr. Floyd Huen, who handles the family’s bills, “thought that we were reasonably current.”

She said that when she learned of the outstanding tickets on Tuesday, she, “like most Oakland citizens paid them all immediately.”

Quan said in a recent email message to her constituents that she hoped to announce the members of her transition advisory committee before Thanksgiving.

But aide Maisha Eberhart said today that the announcement wouldn’t be made until next week.

Quan said in her email that outgoing Mayor Ron Dellums has agreed to a series of meetings with her and her team.
