The Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District’s Transportation Committee approved increased fares this morning for frequent riders using Clipper Cards on the Larkspur and Sausalito ferries.
The district’s board of directors is scheduled to consider approval of the fare hikes Friday morning.
The one-way Clipper Card fare on the Sausalito Ferry would increase starting Jan. 1, 2011, from $4.40 to $4.85, a 10 percent increase, district spokeswoman Mary Currie said.
The one-way fare on the Larkspur Ferry also would increase about 10 percent: from $5.15 to $5.70 with board approval, Currie said.
The district initially proposed increasing the Sausalito Ferry Clipper Card fare from $4.40 to $5.80, a 31.8 percent increase, and boosting the Clipper Card fare on the Larkspur Ferry from $5.15 to $5.80, a 12.6 percent increase, Currie said.
The board revised the proposed fare increases after receiving more than 400 comments about them, Currie said.
The Transportation Committee also approved some changes to the Larkspur Ferry’s October-March winter season schedule, Currie said. The board of directors will consider the modifications on Friday.
The proposed fare increases are one means of addressing an $89 million, five-year revenue shortfall.
The increased ferry fares would generate between $421,000 and $591,000 annually, Currie said.
