The California Public Utilities Commission this morning adopted a resolution granting PG&E permission to cover utility bills for victims of the Sept. 9 San Bruno pipeline explosion.
CPUC staff drafted the resolution in response to a proposal by PG&E to extend bill relief to those impacted by the explosion and fire in the Crestmoor Canyon neighborhood that killed eight people, injured dozens more and damaged or destroyed more than 50 homes.
The bill relief will benefit qualifying San Bruno customers “by reducing the financial burden they face in their efforts to recover from the incident.”
“I think we’re all going to be supportive of this and we don’t need to go on at length about it,” CPUC President Michael Peevey said.
The resolution was approved 5-0 at the commission’s meeting in San Francisco this morning.
