The federal building on Golden Gate Avenue in San Francisco was briefly shut down this afternoon because of a report of a suspicious package in the lobby, a spokeswoman for the U.S. General Services Administration said.
The report came in at about 1 p.m., spokeswoman Gene Gibson said.
The Federal Protective Service, the agency that provides security at federal buildings, called in the San Francisco police bomb squad as a precaution.
Everyone in the building, located at 450 Golden Gate Ave., was ordered to shelter in place and no one was allowed to enter the building, Gibson said.
The bomb squad responded and was able to quickly determine that the package “was nothing of significance,” she said.
The building was reopened after authorities gave the all-clear sometime around 2 p.m., Gibson said.
