Consolidated General Election nearly upon us, it’s almost time to mosey on down to your local polling place, which may or may not have changed from past years. Whether it’s a neighbor’s garage, kung fu school, or athletic club – your designated spot can be found on the Voter Information Pamphlet sent to each registered SF voter.
The address of your polling place is printed on the upper left portion of the back cover, along with accessibility information for that site. Didn’t get your pamphlet in the mail? There is also a Polling Place Lookup Tool on the Department of Elections website.
There’s always the chance that polling places will change and in that case you will receive a postcard notifying you of the change. In case you don’t receive the postcard, signs will be posted on Election Day to direct you towards the new spot.
If you show up at the wrong spot, it’s all good. Poll workers will either redirect you to the correct location, or you can vote on a provisional ballot.
Whether you are voting by mail or in person, you will receive what they call a ranked choice ballot. This type of voting allows us to rank up to three candidates, in order of preference. It’s sometimes called “instant run-off voting” and has been the voting method for electing city officials in SF since March of 2002.
