plane.pngA commercial flight to Hawaii made an emergency landing at San Francisco International Airport this evening after its crew reported smoke in the cockpit, an airline official said.

The U.S. Airways Boeing 757 was carrying 175 passengers and made a safe landing at about 5:10 p.m. at SFO, company spokeswoman Valerie Wonder said.

The flight had departed from Phoenix, Ariz., and was traveling to Maui, Hawaii.

Crews reported smoke of an unknown origin in the cockpit as it flew toward Maui, Wonder said. The smoke dissipated after the report, but the flight landed in SFO as a precautionary measure, she added.

Passengers are currently having their flights rearranged to arrive in Maui as soon as possible, Wonder said.

No injuries were reported.
