7:53 AM: According to broadcast reports from KTVU, two people were injured in a dog attack in Golden Gate Park Thursday morning.

At 6:47 this morning, they say, police were called to the area of Lloyd Lake in Golden Gate Park on reports that two people — one an adult female, the other was unidentified — were bitten on the leg by a dog they describe as a “boxer mix.”

The dog police said they believe was responsible for the attack has been captured (that’s a picture of it on the right) along with another dog that was apparently accompanying it. The dogs, police and Animal Care and Control believe, were not with an owner, and might be strays.

8:11 AM (BCN): Two people were taken to a hospital after being attacked by dogs in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park early this morning, police said.

Police received a 911 call at 6:40 a.m. about a dog attack in the area of John F. Kennedy and Transverse drives, near Lloyd Lake.

Officer Albie Esparza said two dogs attacked two people, including a middle-aged woman.

Police responded and administered medical aid until an ambulance arrived, he said. Both victims were taken to San Francisco General Hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.

Animal control officers have arrived at the park, Esparza said.

One dog, a boxer, was captured near Lloyd Lake. The second was captured a short time later.

No one has come forward yet to claim ownership of the dogs, Esparza said.

8:40 AM: KTVU is now saying that three people have been bitten, but only two were hospitalized. There are now some questions being raised about if they were indeed, strays — one reportedly was wearing a harness.

The second dog, which looked (to my untrained eye) like the mixed breed type of large dog that people generically refer to as a “pit bull,” was injured by police during its capture, perhaps by a bullet. However, at the time of its capture, it appeared to be unhurt enough to comfortably walk, itself, to an ACC van.

9 AM: The Chron has reported on the incident, with several details that differ greatly from earlier reports. This can happen with breaking news!

They say that only two people were attacked, not the three that KTVU noted.

The victims are described as a 71 year old woman, who was taken to SF General, and a man in his 40s, who was treated there, disputing earlier reports from Bay City News that they were both hospitalized.

They say the attack was reported at 6:24 this morning (not 6:47 or 6:40, as earlier reported), getting responses from SFPD three stations.

We’ll keep on updating, of course.

9:37 AM: A lot of conflicting reports out there! Despite what the Chron is still reporting at publication time, Bay City News says that two people were, indeed, hospitalized, and the call came in at 6:40, not 6:24.

A man and woman were hospitalized after being attacked by dogs in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park early this morning, a police spokesman said.

Police received a 911 call at 6:40 a.m. about a dog attack in the area of John F. Kennedy and Transverse drives, near Lloyd Lake.

Two dogs attacked a 71-year-old woman and a middle-aged man, police Officer Albie Esparza said.

Police responded and administered medical aid until an ambulance arrived, he said. Both victims were taken to San Francisco General Hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

One of the dogs, a mixed-breed boxer, was captured near Lloyd Lake.

The second dog was taken into custody after being shot at by police officers, Esparza said. A round might have grazed the dog, which was also shot with a non-lethal, extended-range bean bag weapon, he said.

Both dogs are still alive and in the custody of San Francisco Animal Care and Control, according to Esparza.

No one has come forward yet to claim ownership of the dogs, he said.

9:44 AM: CBS5 has released two pieces of raw video (be careful before clicking on the links, these are autoplay). One’s a briefing on the attack from officials, the other’s video from the dogs’ capture.
