Twitter_256x256.pngDmitry Medvedev, president of the Russian Federation, will visit only a select view places on his trip to the United States this week.

Tonight, he lands at San Francisco International Airport and then dines in Pacific Heights with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Mayor Gavin Newsom; Thursday, Washington for a chat with Barack Hussein Obama II. Tomorrow? Silicon Valley, a speech at Stanford… and a visit to one San Francisco institution, known and beloved throughout the world, with Newsom in tow to explain just exactly how it changed his life for the better.

Twitter.

Yes — the Russian head of state will visit Twitter.

Tomorrow, the second or third one of the most powerful people in the world will tour the Folsom Street offices of Twitter.

Medvedev this week joined Twitter, and will have one of the earth’s most prolific Twittering pols in Newsom on hand for a tour of the social networking site’s offices tomorrow, Newsom’s press office confirmed today.

Tonight, Medvedev will dine with Gav and Guv at the home of George Schultz, former Secretary of State under Reagan, and his wife, professional socialite and California “Chief of Protocol” Charlotte Mailliard.

They may or may not hit up a few vodka bars on the way back to his hotel, or perhaps Tosca, or maybe Farolito (restaurant owners: the next time you want a flood of impromptu traffic, plant a rumor with us).

Twitter and power couples: this is San Francisco in 2010.
