6:30 AM: According to broadcast reports, a significant portion of Octavia Blvd. is closed at Market due to a fatal accident that happened at around 4 Friday morning.

Reports say that the street is closed on the stretch between Market and Haight, and drivers are being diverted from the area.

That means that if you typically take the Octavia ramp to the freeway, you’re out of luck as of 6:30 this morning (we’ll keep you updated). No other details on the accident that’s causing the delay, other than that there was at least one fatality.

6:41 AM: KTVU broadcast is reporting that SFPD were initially called to the area of Market and Octavia due to reports of a body in the median. They interviewed a witness who said that she saw the scene (not the incident) and that she suspected the incident was a hit-and-run, but that KTVU has not been able to confirm that with SFPD.

They say the Medical Examiner removed the body at around 6:35 this morning, which might signal that the intersection will reopen soon.

7:01 AM: All streets in the area have been reopened.

Here’s what we know so far: SFPD’s confirmed that there was a body of a man lying in the median at Octavia and Market, with a skateboard and a shoe nearby. Police say that there was no readily apparent sign of trauma to the body, according to KRON4 broadcast.

SFPD’s urging anyone who might have witnessed this scene at around 4 this morning to contact them to assist in their investigation.

8:43 AM: Details on what happened this morning at Octavia and Market are still sketchy, but SFPD has confirmed that at 4 AM Friday, an African American man of 40 years of age was found dead by another citizen.

At this time they believe the man was “possibly involved in hit and run” but have “no suspect description.”

10:30 AM: Media reports on the body found at Octavia and Market this morning have a few more details: they add that car parts (maybe related, maybe not) were found at the scene, that cops still don’t know how the man died, and that an autopsy will be performed on him. He has yet to be identified.
