This Saturday, the tres bien Birth of Impressionism exhibition opens at the de Young museum in Golden Gate Park. Featuring over 100 paintings from the Impressionist movement, the show includes works by the famous masters who called France their home during the mid to late 19th century. We’re talking Degas, Monet, Manet, Pissarro, Renoir… If you’ve only ever seen these great works online or in books, don’t miss this exhibit. Extra bonus: If you’re a de Young member, you get in free.
Next time you’re driving through our quiet side of town, be sure you have your cell phone headset charged and turned on (you DO have one, right?). The Richmond District Police squad has the highest volume of “driving while talking” arrests and citations in the city. And if you see a cop driving and talking, just look the other way.
Do you know there is only one place where you can stay in San Francisco after you die? It’s the Columbarium and it’s located on the edge of the Richmond District, tucked into an alley near Rossi Playground. One local photographer took some great shots of the fascinating building, which is lined with thousands of niches bearing ashes and mementos from the deceased. Space is still available!

I’ll leave you with another seaside amusement, surfing. The video below has 8mm footage of surfers at Fort Point and Ocean Beach in 1975. Included is a surfer arrest by the Presidio Military Police. Stick it to the man!
