Hello, SF Appeal readers!

This Sunday, the Richmond District will host the second Sunday Streets of the season. Come on out to Golden Gate Park and the Great Highway on Sunday from 10am-3pm to enjoy some car-free playtime with friends and family.

Up, up and away! This week I stumbled across some fascinating aviation history about the Richmond District. Back in 1912, two 15-year old twin brothers built and flew their biplane glider over the dunes of the Richmond District. Known as the Gonzales brothers, they created one of the first tractor propeller aircrafts in Northern California. Get the history along with great old pics.

I learned late last week that one of our iconic diners is struggling to stay afloat. Louis’ Diner, located just up the block from the Cliff House, has been operated by the Hontalas family for over 70 years. Since they’re on federal land, their lease is only year to year, and is currently under review. Help them in their bid to keep their historic Richmond District eatery open.

I hope to see you out at Sunday Streets this weekend. Check out the video below for a look at how we do it on the west side.

Have a great weekend everyone!
