A child who was abducted from a day care center by her father Friday morning was reunited with her mother Friday night, police said.
For nearly 12 fretful hours beginning at approximately 11:30 a.m., Melany Martinez Rodriguez, 1 (pictures, right), was separated from her mother after her father took the girl from a day care center.
The man telephoned Rodriguez’s mother and threatened to kill both himself and the girl, police said.
Police were able to reunite daughter and mother after persuading the man to turn himself in, Sgt. Omar Bueno of Mission Station said.
“Negotiators worked with the father and convinced him to come to Mission Station; it was as simple as that,” Bueno said.
As of 11:45 p.m., police were still detaining the suspect. Bueno said an investigation is also in progress.
