Greetings from the balmy Richmond District!
Hey, is it Sunday yet? I wish it was because we’re hosting the final Sunday Streets this weekend from 10am to 2pm. Come out and wander the scenic streets of Golden Gate Park and the Great Highway. Live music, plenty of things for the kiddies, and delicious treats including the ‘Sweet Cart’ lady will be on hand.
Sunday can’t get here fast enough because we had some real stress in our ‘hood this week! Iin case you missed it, on Tuesday, someone spotted a bottle with a threatening note attached outside a home on 20th Avenue near Balboa.
After police arrived, they found a similar bottle, also with a threatening note, directly across the street. We had SFPD, SFFD, haz mat, bomb squad all swarming the area. Thankfully no one was hurt and the bottles were whisked away. Police are still investigating while we’re all left wondering what the notes said…
Feliz cumpleanos! Everyone’s favorite bookstore, the Green Apple, turned 42 this week. They also announced they signed a 10-year lease so rest assured you can lose yourself in their aisles for many more years to come.
Speaking of the Green Apple, I toured a house this weekend that had what looked like an annex of the store in its basement. I attended my first house auction and watched as the bidding for a serious fixer-upper kept going up and up. Don’t let anyone tell you the real estate market is flailing in SF! Any Mel Brooks fans out there? You can catch a free screening of the classic Young Frankenstein at the Balboa Theater on Sunday, September 13. It’s part of a benefit event for the SF Friends of the Public Library. The only catch is you have to register for the free screening by this Friday, Sept. 4.
Looking for a change of scenery? In honor of their 100th anniversary, the Cliff House is offering three-course pre-fixe meals for under $20. And if you think the Cliff House is just for tourists, think again. Head Chef George Morrone took over in January after noteworthy successes at downtown restaurants Aqua and Fifth Floor. Good view, amazing views – how could you go wrong?
And finally, this one’s for the accomplished and aspiring gardeners out there. The SF Botanical Garden in Golden Gate Park is looking for a few good docents. Their next docent training session begins on September 12. So if you’re the Cliff Clavin of horticulture, why not get a little training and share it with garden visitors?
