6:14 PM: Muni’s just alerted us: service is back to normal. Yay!

5:44 PM: We’re awaiting word from Muni on if their lines have been re re routed back to normal, as Bay City News is reporting that the police activity causing the reroute has been peacefully resolved. From BCN:

San Francisco police have detained a man who barricaded himself inside a residential hotel near downtown this afternoon and are taking him to a local hospital for a mental evaluation, a police sergeant said.

Police were notified at about 3 p.m. by a doctor who wanted to check on the barricaded man in the hotel at 875 Post St., Sgt. Lyn Tomioka said.

When officers arrived at the man’s room, “He opened the door and slammed it,” Tomioka said.

Negotiators managed to contact the man by phone. He allegedly refused to comply with the officers’ orders to show his hands as he left the room and police used a non-lethal, extended-range bean bag weapon to detain him, Tomioka said.

The man, who is in his 50s 46 years old, did not have a weapon and had been alone in the room, according to Tomioka.

He was taken to a local hospital for a mental evaluation.

Post Street between Larkin and Leavenworth streets was closed by the incident, but is expected to open shortly, Tomioka said at 5:15 p.m.

5:06 PM: Bay City News is reporting the reason for the Muni reroute: SFPD is “negotiating this afternoon with a man who has barricaded himself inside a residential hotel near downtown,” according to SFPD spokesperson Sgt. Lyn Tomioka. More from BCN:

“We do have a barricaded subject,” said Sgt. Lyn Tomioka. “It doesn’t appear that there’s anybody else with him.”

Tomioka said police were notified at about 3 p.m. by a doctor who wanted them to check on the man at the hotel, located at 875 Post St.

When officers arrived at the man’s room, “He opened the door and slammed it,” Tomioka said.

Police then called for support, including hostage negotiators, she said.

“We don’t want him to hurt himself,” Tomioka said.

Police are armed with non-lethal options, including an extended-range bean bag weapon, “if appropriate,” Tomioka said.

5:04 PM: Muni tells us that the 2 Clement, 3 Jackson, and 4 Sutter bus lines are being rerouted through the Post and Larkin area due to police activity. You’ll know more than we do.
