ATU wasn’t the only union expressing agitation last week — Local 2, the union for many of the city’s hotel workers, marched on Union Square Friday afternoon.
At stake? Friday the union’s contract expired, and organizers fear that “hotel corporations this year will try to use the crisis of 2009 to force us into concessions.” According to the Labor Video Project, over 9000 SF hotel workers are now on the job without a contract.
Preemptive strike for a fair contract, or the first sortie in a lengthy battle? Of course, it’s too soon to tell, but from Steve Rhodes’ photos, the union looks ready to buckle down and fight.
