The Appeal has learned that Ken McDonald, the Chief Operating Officer for the SF MTA (the governing body of, among other things, Muni) has submitted his resignation. No reason for his departure was given in his letter, only that
MTA spokesperson Judson True told the Appeal that there will be comments at today’s 2 PM SF MTA board meeting regarding McDonald’s departure, but demurred comment before then.
One Muni insider we spoke to said that he believes that last night’s accident was not related to McDonald’s departure, but was “just bad timing.” However, that same source pointed out that all Muni’s safety triumphs and failures were “ultimately are his responsibility as COO.”
You can see his letter of resignation here.
