A vote on legislation that would raise cable television subscribers’ bills by $1.86 per month in order to provide a local cable-access television station with funds necessary to continue operating was delayed two weeks.
Proposed by Supervisor Bevan Dufty, and opposed by legislation sponsor Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi, the motion will allow city departments such as the City Controller, City Attorney and the Department of Technology — who oversees the operation of television studio Access SF — to examine and weigh in on the deal.
This is not the first time Access SF has been before the Board of Supervisors: a resolution supporting the television studio and its myriad programs was passed several months ago. But Tuesday was the first day visible opposition to the deal had been seen: several citizens clutching hand-written signs saying “Don’t raise our cable fees” were in the crowd, in some cases sitting next to the ever-present and more numerous supporters of the deal.
