Surely, you’re not stupid enough to think that it’s OK to leave your dog in a parked car, even for “a minute” with the windows cracked, in weather like we’re having now. Unfortunately, everyone’s not as smart as you, which is probably why SFACC just sent out a press release reminding folks of just that, and saying “Officers spent the weekend saving dogs from the heat – including dogs left in cars while their owners enjoyed the Giant’s baseball game in San Francisco.” Who are these people?

But, like we said, you already know how dangerous a hot car can be for a dog — but, did you know that if you see a dog stranded in a car, ACC will bust into said car to liberate it?

It’s true. They said so in the release: “Animals found to be in danger — in a hot car — will be removed by Animal Care & Control and taken to the city shelter.” Oh, man, someone send us pictures of that.

So, if you see a dog left in a car, do your civic duty and call ACC at 415-554-9400 or, if you didn’t just program that into your phone the way we did, just call 911. You’d want someone to do it for you.
