A special California Highway Patrol task force will be targeting tour buses traveling through the Bay Area today with inspections to confirm the buses and bus drivers comply with safety requirements and regulations.
The inspections, conducted by the CHP’s Motor Carrier Safety and Commercial units, will take place on Remmel Road south of state Highway 128 in Geyserville beginning at 9 a.m.
The task force aims to reduce the number of bus collisions and injuries due to defective equipment or unsafe drivers, according to the CHP.
Drivers will be checked for possible alcohol or drug usage, and drivers’ paperwork will be checked to be sure bus driver licenses and proper permitting are up to date and in order.
CHP spokesman Sgt. Trent Cross will be available throughout the day for comment.
The Motor Carrier Safety Unit annually conducts 900 safety audit inspections and 1,900 vehicle inspections of buses and bus companies throughout the Bay Area. The unit is also responsible for following up with companies that have not demonstrated appropriate compliance.
