There’s not a lot of must see TV this week, and what there is of it seems to be on Thursday night, so we’ll get to that in a moment. For now let’s look at Tuesday, April 24th, and a new series that on the surface looks pretty awful, but might be worth a look.
It’s called “The L.A. Complex,” and like many an L.A.-set show, it’s about young people with Hollywood dreams, who also happen to all live in the same apartment complex. It’s a Canadian import, and features former “Degrassi” actress Cassie Steele. So, fine, none of that sounds too compelling, so here’s the selling point: Paul F. Tompkins and Mary Lynn Rajskub guest star as themselves. Also: Jewel Staite. That’s enough for me! 9 P.M. on the CW.
So, as I mentioned, Thursday, April 26th, is this week’s hot night, with the best bet probably being “30 Rock.” Once again, they will be performing an episode live, actually doing different shows for both coasts, so we don’t have to feel cheated. The last time they did this it was great, and included appearances from Jon Hamm, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Matt Damon, so, a lot to live up to! 8:30 P.M. on NBC.
A couple of new shows are also premiering on Thursday, and one is strictly for “Real Housewives” fans. I can’t imagine anyone else giving a rat’s ass about Kim Zolciak and her wedding with Atlanta Falcons defensive end Kroy (Kroy!) Biermann. “Don’t Be Tardy For the Wedding” is, for some reason, (mercy, perhaps?), a half-hour show, but two episodes air Thursday starting at 9 P.M. on Bravo.
Also premiering is the talk show “The Conversation with Amanda de Cadenet.” If you’re like me, you only know who Amanda Cadenet is because she was basically the child bride of Duran Duran’s John Taylor back in the day. But since then she’s been an actress, a photographer, and friend to a variety of celebrities who, apparently, will answer any question she poses, including, most popularly, “What’s your favorite sexual position?” If you’ve always wondered what Jane Fonda’s answer to that question might be, then this is the show for you. 11 P.M. on Lifetime.
Finally, on Sunday, April 29th, we have the “TV Land Awards,” an awards show whose concept I never really understood, but basically seems to be honoring television that is no longer with us, and television that will in the future no longer be with us, but may be deemed classic. I guess. You can check out a list of past “winners” here. Kelly Ripa hosts this year, and there will be cast reunions from “One Day at a Time” and “Laverne & Shirley.” Let your nostalgia flag fly, friends! 9 P.M. on TV Land.
